Abstract
The main objective of the study was to determine the relationship between the level of self-esteem and anxiety with the nutritional status of schoolchildren intervened by the program Salud Escolar- Aprende Saludable (School Health - Healthy Learning) of SJL. This was an observational, descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional study. The sample was composed of 139 elementary school students, with simple random sampling as probability method. For the collection of the data regarding the level of self-esteem and level of anxiety, the self-esteem test was applied to schoolchildren of César Ruiz Alva and the Beck Anxiety Inventory adapted for children, respectively; and to assess the nutritional status, the tables of the WHO Child Growth Patterns of 2007 were applied: BMI / Age by Standard Deviation (SD). These are the results: 17.2% of schoolchildren had low self-esteem, 28.8% of schoolchildren had severe anxiety; 36% had inadequate nutritional status. The level of self-esteem and anxiety are not significantly related to the nutritional status of schoolchildren, as revealed by the Chi-square test with a statistical confidence level of 95%. Conclusions: It is concluded that the level of self-esteem and level of anxiety are not significantly related to the nutritional status of schoolchildren between the ages of 8 and 12. According to the degree of association of the variables, both for the relationship between the level of self-esteem and nutritional status, and between the level of anxiety and the nutritional status, it is affirmed that there is a small correlation between the variables mentioned.
