Abstract
The present research had the purpose of developing and validating a psychological measurement instrument for mobile phone addiction in university students from Lima. This research is psychometric because the Mobile Phone Addiction Scale (ESATEL) was developed and validated in a multidimensional way. A non-probabilistic convenience sampling was used, the sample was made up of 320 students. The results indicate that the scale has adequate content validity (Aiken's V = .93). The construct validity was performed using the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) technique, which shows a two-dimensional scale: Irrepressible desire and interference of activities and loss of control. Likewise, it has a high reliability (ordinal alpha = .91). It is concluded that ESATEL has adequate psychometric properties to be considered valid and reliable for the measurement of mobile phone addiction
