Abstract

It related to the correlational descriptive level, secondary type, and non-experimental design. The sample was gotten from the database of Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud Familiar in 2019, obtained from the data repository of Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática; 551 mothers and their children were the sample. To find the association between variables, the Chi2 statistical test was used. As a result, it was discovered that children who started breastfeeding early, corresponded to 44.10%, the minimum dietary diversity was fulfilled in 86.03%, the consumption of unhealthy foods was 15.43% and there was 9.80% of excess weight. According to the Chi2 statistical test, all the studied dimensions of infant feeding patterns presented a p value greater than 0.05. It is concluded that no association was found between infant feeding patterns and excess weight in children aged 6 to 23 months in Lima Metropolitana.
