The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between emotional dependence and stress coping strategies in women victims of intimate partner violence attending a Women's Emergency Center. It has a quantitative approach and a descriptive correlational design. Data were collected by means of the Aiquipa Emotional Dependence Inventory (2015) and the Stress Coping Modes Questionnaire validated by Canelo and Serpa (2018). There was a sample of 71 women with ages ranging from 18 to 58 years who reported physical, psychological, sexual and economic violence exercised by the partner. The findings show that 3 out of 10 women obtained emotional dependence at a high level and the strategies frequently employed between 46.5% and 67.6% of the sample are aimed at seeking a solution to the problem. Likewise, a statistically significant and direct association was observed between general emotional dependence and emotion-focused coping strategies such as emotion analysis (rs =. 329, p = .005) and turning to religion (rs = .320, p = . 006), and with active coping avoidance strategies such as denial (rs =. 282, p = .017) and inappropriate behaviors (rs =. 306, p = .009), consequently, women with high level of emotional dependence employ coping strategies that are not directed toward active problem-solving. Intervention programs are recommended.
