Abstract
The objective of the study was to know whether or not there is a direct relationship between nutritional status variables and risk factors of metabolic syndrome in sedentary teachers of an educational institution; The research was observational descriptive, non-experimental design with cross section; Likewise, the non-probabilistic statistical method was applied for convenience to calculate the sample size, obtaining 120 professors between the ages of 18 and 59, who obey the inclusion criteria; highlighting in the results, overweight was higher in women, in addition we found values of obesity grade I and II, compared to men, they also doubled the risk value of triglycerides and presented a greater risk of waist circumference, however, the males had a higher risk of high glucose (1.7%) and doubled the risk of blood pressure to the female population; observing, that the sample was in the category of sedentary lifestyle, in addition to maintaining a diet rich in fat and poor in fiber. The Kendall's Tau a statistical test was applied, which tested the hypothesis if there is a relationship between nutritional status and risk factors for metabolic syndrome in sedentary teachers of an educational institution which confirmed the relationship between the study variables. (p value: 0.00), it is concluded that there is a relationship between nutritional status and risk of metabolic syndrome in the population studied.
