Abstract
El principal objetivo del presente estudio, de naturaleza descriptiva, fue determinar qué aspectos del estilo narrativo de Julio Ramón Ribeyro se ven afectados por las sobretraducciones y subtraducciones identificadas en la versión inglesa del cuento Al pie del acantilado. El corpus genérico del estudio estuvo conformado por 102 sobretraducciones y 60 subtraducciones, de las que se seleccionaron 60 para conformar el corpus específico. Para el análisis del corpus específico de la investigación, conformado por 37 sobretraducciones y 23 subtraducciones, se aplicó la técnica de análisis comparativo del corpus. El estudio llegó a tres conclusiones generales: en primer lugar, los aspectos del estilo narrativo del autor más afectados son la oralidad y concisión; en segundo lugar, las sobretraducciones afectan principalmente la concisión y, finalmente, las subtraducciones afectan principalmente la oralidad.
The main objective of this study, of descriptive nature, was to determine which aspects of Julio Ramón Ribeyro’s narrative style were affected by the over-translations and under-translations identified in the English version of the short-story Al pie del acantilado. The generic corpus of the study was formed by 102 over-translations and 60 under-translations, from which 60 were selected to form the specific corpus. For the analysis of the specific corpus of the study, formed by 37 over-translations and 23 under-translations, the comparative corpus analysis technique was applied. The study reached three general conclusions: firstly, the most affected aspects of the author’s narrative style are his orality and conciseness; secondly, the over-translations affect mainly his conciseness; and, finally, the under-translations affect mainly his orality.
